Paris Hilton sells burgers

Saturday, July 30th, 2005

I bet Paris Hilton got paid millions to sell burgers for this joint.

On the other hand, this fat bloke probably got paid peanuts for doing the same thing.

Of course, Singaporeans in certain circles are indeed getting paid peanuts. If you don’t know what I’m referring to, read this.

Unpublished “scandals” of ex-NKF CEO TT Durai

Saturday, July 30th, 2005

Overdosed of NKF/TT Durai saga. But this one’s interesting…

Gathered from hotline callers by a newspaper writer:

  • Durai has 3 mistresses
  • had one woman who earned 7k a month
  • it was true what the papers said about them flying first class
  • they have deep connections which is why they can cover their butt so easily
  • Yikes! Don’t sue! I read it here.

Singapore National Library New & Old

    Saturday, July 30th, 2005

I felt a strange sense of nostalgia as I read about the opening of Singapore National Library’s new building on 22 July 2005, probably because I hardly set foot into the old building. But I guess the fact that I used to visit my neighbourhood library every week in my younger years kind of made the connection somehow.

Thanks to the Internet and my trusty search tool, TurboScout, I dug up some info and pictures about our library that I like to share with you:

    1. Official Web site
    2. Trivials about the new building
    3. Virtual flythrough of new building
    4. Pictures with commentary from the 1st day of opening and some beautiful night scenes (Thanks to blogger, Ivan Chew)
    5. Outside view from level 16(Added 4Aug2005. Tx, LimeDsign)
    6. Pictures of the old building

    Simple screen capture freeware utility

    Friday, July 29th, 2005

At times we want to capture our screen (or parts of the screen) as an image for various purposes, and this little nifty freeware does the job perfectly: MWSnap

Not only is it free, it does not require installation, and thus won’t mess up my system!

Just unzip and run the program! Neat!

PS. MWSnap was last updated in July 2002, but it still works well in my Windows XP system in 2005.

Free and unlimited online photo sharing sites

    Wednesday, July 27th, 2005

The good folks at CNET have published (on 15 Jun 2005) a good reviews summary of popular online web-based photo sharing sites, and compared them in an easy-to-read comparison table.

For basic users, please see “Online photo sharing for snapshot photographers“. For pro users, please see “Online photo sharing for enthusiasts and pros“.

I’m a basic user looking for one that is FREE and offers unlimited storage. It seems like Yahoo Photos is my choice, because:

    • it is offered by a reputable company
    • I already have an Yahoo! ID
    • I can share selected photos and/or albums with specific friends
    • it has a basic bulk upload tool to make my uploading easier

If you’re looking for online web-based photo sharing sites, the above CNET links would be a great place to start.

Better than any Post-it pads I’ve used

    Tuesday, July 26th, 2005

I have so many pieces of paper of all sizes scribbled with often almost illegible handwriting (mine) on my desk. I am also trying to be more organized by scribbing into a notebook so that at least my scribbles are all in one place. I have tried text files, MS Word files, mindmaps, tasklists in MS Outlook, and have long given up on using them; they’re an overkill for what I need: jot down bits of info.

Until EverNote came to the rescue. Using EverNote is like taking notes on an endless roll of virtual paper.

    My desk looks neater now.

    Yes, EverNote is free.

    Create PDFs for free

    Monday, July 25th, 2005

Adobe Reader is free if all you want to do is read/print PDFs, but to create PDFs you’ll need to buy Abobe Acrobat.

Or you can use PrimoPDF which is free. No annoying pop-up ads, no registration requirement - no catch!

To create a PDF file, simply ‘print’ to the virtual printer ‘PrimoPDF printer’.
